Welcoming 2012

"I know, O Lord, that a man's life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps."
Jeremiah 10:23

It has become an annual tradition for me to spend the first 40 days of the New Year in silence, prayer and reflection.  This is one of the reasons why I have not been as active on my blog.

Disengaging from the media around me is, at first, very difficult.  However, if I am not careful, being online can distract me from the purposes and plans that God has for me.

This yearly tradition of media fasting resets my spiritual clock.  It allows me to reevaluate the direction my life and to make sure that I am managing my time well.  At the end of the 40 days, I feel renewed, refreshed and refocused.

Now that I have been spending more time focused on listening to what I hear from God and not allowing myself to be distracted by my usual activities, I believe God is asking me to put my blogging aside for now.  This deviates from my original plan of abstaining from the media for 40 days.  While I am uncertain as to what will fill the time I would have ordinarily spent online, I do know that whatever He asks me to do it will be for my own good and ultimately for His glory.

I will miss reading everyone's comments and keeping up with the blogging community.  I hope you have a wonderful year and I leave you with my favorite song of 2011.

"Breath of heaven
Hold me together
Be forever near me
Breath of heaven

Breath of heaven
Lighten my darkness
Pour over me, your holiness
For you are holy"
